The Ohio Dangerous Wild Animal Act protects wild animals like tigers, bears, and lions from being kept in captivity. But despite this, many people out there are still violating the law. The poor animals are locked away in dirty and disease-infested cages in roadside zoos, while their owners disregard them and focus only on the profit. Bears are one of the most common animals found in these kinds of establishments.

Recently, the Ohio Department of Agriculture managed to rescue 13 bears from backyard cages and roadside zoos. Amongst the rescued animals, some were underweight, some were obese, and some had intestinal parasites or broken teeth. PETA worked together with The Wild Animal Sanctuary to transport these bears to their Colorado sanctuary. They will all be released into their naturalistic habitats once they adapt well.
